It was hot in the hut last night. Because of the sandflies we had to keep the windows closed and because of the size of the hut it was really hot. The Alpine landscape disappeared and was replaced by another forest. I made a break just after Tarn hut and at Mid Wairoa after the steep downhill to the river. I was very sweaty so the swim in the river was lovely despite the sandflies. The last part of today’s walk was along the river and really nice and demanding. The trail was steep and exposed at some places but it was challenging and rewarding. I reached Top Wairoa hut and was surprised by it’s bright color. The bright orange made it really stands out. The landscape also really changed just before going out from the forest. The big tree were replaced by stones and busches.
