9 hours with a two hours break at kiwi Lodge
So many sandflies! After my breakfast in my tent I pack my stuff and start the day quite late. I walk easily to the kiwi lodge hut where I have a long break to eat in the shade of the hot day. I met old TA friends at the hut and we have a nice chat. The way up to the next hut is easy and partly in the forest. I cross a nice cable bridge, went up an easy saddle and then down again to have a swim in the lake Sumner. The cold water is perfect to coole down. The last part stretches a little and I am happy to reach Hurunui hut after the long bridge crossing down the hut. As the hut is reachable by 4WD, there are a lot of (empty) bottles of various spirits laying around . I receive a beer from Frank and that ends the day perfectly. I decide to have a short day tomorrow to rest a little.
